Egypt reportedly preparing to impose import restriction on steel products
SteelOrbis has learnt that the Egyptian parliament’s industrial committee met on Monday, November 26, to discuss several requests from steel producers (representing almost 75 percent of Egyptian steel producers) to impose tariffs on all kinds of steel imports, with the focus on imported billets. Although there has not been any official announcement from Egypt’s Ministry of Trade, market sources said that safeguard measures are more likely than antidumping duties.
It is speculated that tariffs of 10 percent on billet imports and 15 percent on rebar and hot rolled coil (HRC) imports may be imposed.
Egypt currently collects antidumping duties on rebar imports from Turkey, China and Ukraine.
